25 Days of Christmas Memories - Day 8

This year I've decided to write a special Christmas memory for the 25 days of Christmas. Each day until Christmas day, I will share a funny Christmas moment, memorable gift exchange, and my happy moments with family.  I hope you enjoy!

8th Day of Christmas

One of the best parts of Christmas is hearing from everyone who cares about you.  That's right, I'm talking about Christmas cards!  Obsessed might be the word to describe me when it comes to Christmas cards.  I actually think and plan out what I want to do months in advance.  Since we got married, I've been sending out a newsletter with my cards -  I know ultra corny.  Honestly I've been sending out cards since I was in high school and It's one of my favorite parts of the holiday.  The other best part is waking up in the morning and anticipating the mail man each day who is bound to bring me some cards in the mail.  I am such a dork but really finding cards in my box for Christmas brightens my day no matter what.  Then there are those days when I go out there and there's nothing.  Yeah, those days I get so sad but then go back in the house and read the ones I've already received again.  I need to get a life, I think.

So anyways, this Christmas memory has to do with cards.  As you can tell already I have a slight obsession with them.  My list each year gets longer and longer as well.  One year, when I was still living with my parents, I was very excited as usual to get some cards out.  But I wanted to make them special and unique.  I got the cutest cards I could find, signed, and addressed them.  But that wasn't enough.  I actually got some paint and a paintbrush and painted each envelope with bright green stripes.  I kid you not.  Every single one I hand painted.  When I was done, I though they were the coolest cards I'd ever seen.

Some years I methodically design stickers on the envelopes, other times I'll order them with our names and message pre-printed.  Sometimes I include a photo or two and other times a pretty Christmas quote.

They always say giving is better than receiving and I agree whole-heartedly. I don't receive cards from half the people I send to but it doesn't matter. I still send them to people.  I like to think that it makes their day as it does mine - okay so maybe they are not impatiently waiting for the mailman like I am!  But I still love to get cards in the mail.  My favorite cards are pictures of people or their kids.  I love seeing everyone grow up year after year.  I love newsletters, personal messages, and honestly I just love the cards.
